Having a good quality set of pots and pans can improve the quality of your cooking. Most of the time it is cheaper to purchase a cookware set than buying the pieces needed individually. There are many factors to consider when looking for the best set for your kitchen.

The common materials are copper, aluminum, cast iron, and stainless steel, each one of these offers different advantages and will determine the price of the cookware set. You probably already have an idea of what pieces you would need as there are no faults when it comes to cookware sets. Another factor that sets the price of the cookware set is a number of pieces that are in each set.

If you purchase a very good contrasted cookware set and treat right with proper care, your cookware set should last for several years without needing to replace it.

Before I go into recommendations lets discuss some of the materials little more.

Copper

Copper is a heat conductor that will provide even quick heating to the sensitivity of the flame temperature. Many professional chefs prefer to cook with copper cookware.

Copper also makes an attractive display to your kitchen. The cons of copper cookware are sometimes the price is high, needs to polish and react to acidic foods. Copper cookware also can be easily scratched with discoloration.

Aluminum

Aluminum is a good conductor of heat, but however, it is soft and can easily be scratched and receive dents. Aluminum cookware also reacts to acidic foods that potentially leach into your food. To prevent these issues the cookware needs to be anodized that help resist scratches and leaching into food.

Aluminum cookware has a nonstick coating that helps with easy cleaning. This type of cookware is easy to find at some low prices however, the lower the cost can mean poor quality.

Stainless Steel

Stainless steel cookware includes resistance to scratching, dents, and discoloration. Additionally, stainless steel will not react to foods like other material cookware sets. However, stainless steel has a poor conductor of heat.

Good quality stainless steel cookware has a core extending over entire pot or pan and low-quality cookware will have just aluminum bottom.

Stainless steel cookware usually costs more than the anodized aluminum cookware however, they are versatile and suitable for any type of cooking.

If there is one thing I am passionate about, it is food. However, I think the importance of the tools used to cook that food is many times overlooked. A good, quality set of cookware can last you a lifetime if you treat it right! Personally, I have a lot of experience with All-Clad and that is my go-to brand. It is a little more expensive, but I love the stainless steel design and the sturdy feel! It’s nice to see it on this list. Thanks so much for making it!

All-Clad cookware is a great choice and can last a long time with proper use. I do not use cooking metal utensils in my cookware, only wooden or plastic utensils.

Lots of great information here. I can be a bit picky when it comes to cookware. Right now I have 2 different sets but I definitely favour one over the other. One has better handles, the lids aren’t hot to touch when cooking & food doesn’t stick as often. I really like the sounds of the GreenLife 16-Piece Cookware Set. The hermolon ceramic non-stick coating sounds really durable. I also like the idea of soft-grip handles. Then once I have now are just regular metal handles that can be a bit slippery at times. The design of the set is beautiful too.

When I move out on my own in a few months I might just buy this set. Thanks for sharing 🙂

A replacement set of cookware is long overdue in our house. We have an eclectic arrangement, to say the least. We would have already bought some but we can never makeour minds up about what to go for. There always seems to be a huge selection and I never know which one is better than another, regardless of price.

In the past, any large purchases, like the big saucepan that takes pride of place on the hob as it’s too big to go in any of the cupboards, have been made from stainless steel.

After reading your article, it appears that there is now a vast array of different materials available. At least you have provided a comprehensive guide to each type, with their pro’s and con’s. This will help and as such, making a choice will be much easier.
