The Caraway 7 Piece Cookware Set Review

Our reviewer was able to test the Caraway 7 Piece Cookware Set in her kitchen after we purchased it. Read on for the full review.

A well-stocked kitchen should have nonstick cookware. Usually, nonstick means that your pots and pans are coated with PTFE or PFOA1. If you don’t correctly oil your pan or turn the heat up too high, you’ll get a mess that will take too much time and elbow grease to clean.

The Caraway cookware set is ceramic-coated aluminum and promises to be nonstick for a lifetime. Caraway makes the most visually appealing cookware, but looks can only take you so far.

The Caraway Cookware Set was tested with steaks, pasta sauce, eggs, and a period of two weeks. Here are our findings.

The design is as beautiful as it is functional Caraway 7 Piece Cookware Set.

From the design alone, we were pretty much sold. The Caraway cookware comes in five dusty floral colors to enhance any kitchen aesthetic, unlike the typical silver or black. Navy is a gorgeous deep blue, but cream, light gray, perracotta (a pink and terracotta hybrid), and sage.

If you want to mix and match rather than purchase a one-color set, you can do that as well. If you buy the set as-is, you save some money, $65, to be exact.

With the set, you’ll get a 10.5-inch fry pan; a 4.5-quart saute pan with a lid, a 3-quart saucepan with a lid, and a 6.5-inch Dutch oven with a lid. The only thing we would have liked was a smaller saucepan for cooking small amounts of rice or reheating leftovers, but it’s not a dealbreaker.

It was the perfect size for the cookware itself without being too bulky. In the Dutch oven, we could cook a large pasta sauce for Sunday dinner.

The handles were positioned well as they were large and easy to grip. They’re made of stainless steel, and without rubber grips, so they get hot quickly, and you’ll need to use an oven mitt when draining grease or pasta in the sink. This is not a dealbreaker, and it is pretty familiar with cookware, but we thought it was worth mentioning.

Went above and beyond with accessories.

There are also magnetic pan racks that perfectly hold each pot in an upright, sideways position, as well as a canvas lid holder that hangs on the inside of your cabinet door so you can easily access the lids. The magnetic pan holder reduced the space that our cookware occupied in our cabinet when it was time to put it away. With these extras, the cookware immediately stands out from other sets we own, which end up stacked in a pile in our cabinet. A nice touch is the inclusion of two corkboard trivets imprinted with the Caraway logo.

Easy-to-clean and nonstick material.

Nonstick cookware is a kitchen must-have, but sometimes you have to choose between something you can easily clean and something that requires some serious scrubbing.

There’s no need to choose with Caraway because it offers the best of both worlds. PTFE (the main compound in Teflon®) and PFOA2 are not present in the pots and pans, aluminum with a nonstick ceramic coating.

The nonstick coating is a dream. Teflon® may be the gold standard in nonstick, but the Caraway set outperforms every other pan we’ve tried by a wide margin.

Whether we were sauteing onions, melting butter, frying eggs, searing steaks, or simmering a pasta sauce, not a single piece of food stuck to the bottom of the pan. We could stir and flip quickly. Stirring and flipping these pans should be done with plastic, rubber, or wooden utensils to prevent scratching the coating.

Caraway 7 Piece Cookware Set-Efficient and even heating capacity.

Ceramic cookware is known for holding and retaining heat, and the Caraway cookware is no exception. While cooking on low to medium heat, as recommended by the manufacturer, our pots and pans became hot, and our eggs and bacon cooked evenly and quickly.

This was no matter where you placed the food in the pan. If the bacon isn’t placed perfectly in the center with other cookware, giant skillets, it doesn’t cook evenly. The bacon in the middle will burn, while the outside is barely cooked. All of these problems were eliminated with the Caraway set.

There was, however, a learning curve for us. In the past, we’ve had to turn the heat up high in our older pans, but this cookware is much more efficient and better at distributing heat, so we didn’t have to do that. We kept having to remind ourselves to turn down the flame.

Caraway can be used on electric stovetops and induction stovetops, too. The pots and pans are also oven-safe up to 550 degrees to replace heavier cast iron skillets in the kitchen.

Caraway 7 Piece Cookware Set-Dishwasher not recommended for cleaning.

Our top pick for the most important cookware set feature is a tie between cooking performance and ease of cleanup. Ideally, a pan that can sear a rib-eye is excellent, but if the pan is left with remnants of baked-on steak crust for the rest of its life, that dampens the entire experience. Moreover, if a ceramic cookware set claims to be innovative by offering nonstick capabilities, it must live up to the hype.

Caraway cookware set doesn’t just live up to the hype, and we thought it was hyped up too much. After making a thick meaty spaghetti sauce, all the pot needed was a quick wash and wiped with a clean sponge. The same was true when I cleaned up after a seared rib-eye steak. It was almost effortless to wipe off the brown crusty bits.

If you’re wondering whether you should use the dishwasher, we don’t recommend it. We couldn’t find a solid answer about whether or not the set is dishwasher-safe, so we think it’s not. These pots and pans are easy to clean, so we didn’t know a dishwasher was necessary since it can degrade cookware over time.

Caraway 7 Piece Cookware Set-Worth the price.

Our initial reaction to the $395 price tag was sticker shock. That’s almost $100 per item! After spending some time in the kitchen with this set, we soon realized that it was worth every penny. In Caraway’s words, “well-done cookware is rare,” and you get what you pay for. In addition to the set looking and feeling high-end, the cooking also feels high-end once you get the hang of it. In addition, it comes with pot and lid holders, which other sets lack, and to us, that kind of organization is invaluable.

Final Thoughts.

Now is the time to throw out your old cookware and get this set.

You need the Caraway Cookware Set:

  • It’s beautiful and functional.
  • It holds heat and cooks well.
  • It can go right from the stove to the oven.
  • It comes with an organization system.
